The actor and musician’s breakthrough performances in recent times have tossed him back into the limelight

‘My connection with music will never go’

Namit Das has consistently showcased sensational performances,

whether it was in films such as the 2009-film Wake up Sid with Ranbir Kapoor or

the 2013-film Ghanchakkar with Vidya Balan and Emraan Hashmi, or on TV series such

as Sumit Sambhal Lega, a remake of Everybody Loves Raymond.

However, it’s undebatable that it’s the OTT that has given Namit’s career a fillip.

Whether it was his role as Jawahar Bishnoi in the Sushmita-Sen-starrer Aarya or as

Haresh Khanna in Mira Nair’s A Suitable Boy, the young man has made quite the

impression among audiences, critics and filmmakers. He is soon set to be seen in sev-

eral other projects from E Nivas’s Donali to a couple of Netflix projects among others.

“I’ve had some really good projects in the recent past too, of which I wrapped up a

beautiful web film called Aafat E Ishq with Neha Sharma and Ila Arun,” says Namit.

“I’ve also done a web series called Donali in which I play a dacoit in Chambal and have

been given a really good get up as a dacoit from the sixties. Apart from that, there’s a

very interesting project for Netflix though I cannot talk about it for now. We were shoot-

ing for both of them before the lockdown, and will resume shooting when things are

fine.”

FOND REMEMBRANCES

Talking about his previous shoots with other well-known actors, he especially

remembers how, while shooting for Ghanchakkar, during his beginning days in

the industry, Vidya Balan and Emraan Hashmi were rather accommodating to him.

“It was early in my career. It was one of my biggest roles in terms of length. Vidya

Balan, who’s such a sweet person, made me comfortable. We share a

good bond even when we meet today,” he adds. The actor recently

worked on Aafat-E- Ishq, the shoot for which he says he

enjoyed thoroughly too. “I play a character called Atmaram, who is

always hovering around the character played  by Neha Sharma,” says Namit.

THE BONDS OF MUSIC

Incidentally, Namit is the son of the famous singer Chandan Dass and grandson from his

mother’s side to the famous musician, K.Pannalal.

Not surprisingly, Namit was initially working on a career in music, having learnt

music from his father and Bhavdeep Jaipurwale.

However, destiny had other plans, and the actor chose to make a full-time career in act-

ing. His move into acting has nevertheless not stopped him from dabbling in music.

He’d even released an album some time ago with Anurag Shanker.

“Music is important to me and I love listening to music. It is in my blood. In fact,

when I had COVID, it was all I did, listening to all my LP records. My connection with

music will never go
